According to Mr. Noel Sarcilla, the Araling Panlipunan Head Teacher III and Brigada Eskuwela Focal Person, the said event will initiate its uproar in different means without face to face contact or physical interaction due to the catastrophic worldwide disease; however, this will not be possible without the help of the school’s stakeholders and other active partners who volunteered to join the revamping of the school’s premises.

“I can say that the Brigada [Eskuwela] this year is quite different compared to last year, knowing that we are being faced with Covid-19 pandemic, with a very uncertain when will it end,” uttered Mr. Sarcilla in a brief interview via Facebook Messenger, “There will be no face to face volunteers who will help us achieve our goals but still DEPED decided to continue the program in order to enliven the spirit of camaraderie among all volunteers inspired of all the odds. Our school still have work plans in order to make Brigada [Eskuwela] possible,” he added.

This will relate to DepEd’s previous statement about learning continuity despite the pandemic, as Mr. Sarcilla ended his response saying, “Laban lang. Ipagpatuloy ninyo ang pag-aaral para makatulong sa inyong mga magulang at sa bansa.”

At this point in time, Sampaguita High School’s Brigada Eskwela 2020 has already been commencing its patch up through the social media with the initiatives of last year’s class advisers through kind donations such as hygiene kits and school supplies: alcohol, face masks and shields, anti-bacterial soap, bond papers, printer inks, and the like. These in-kind aids can enhance students’ and parents’ health safety measures against Corona Virus and improve the faculty productiveness as well.

Dr. Ginalyn B. Dignos, the SHS principal, said in an interview that in light of the COVID-19 situation, the Brigada Eskuwela has been reconfigured this year and the traditional concept involving physical cleaning, painting, doing minor repairs and other volunteerism activities will no longer happen.

“The new concept this year shall focus on preparations and strengthening partnership engagement to ensure learning continues in the face of a national health crisis. Hence, this year's BE main aim is to promote sustainable and safe living that highlights the application of knowledge and convergence of efforts to address the required health standards and social issues at home, in school and in the community.” Dr. Dignos mentioned, “To ensure full assistance in the preparation of schools for opening of classes, Brigada Eskwela used to be a week-long program but because of its joint implementation with Oplan Balik Eskwela, this year, it runs from June 1 to Aug. 29, 2020.” She added.

Dr. Dignos also stated that the activities of the Brigada Eskwela being implemented this year adhere to the theme of Pagpapanatili ng Bayanihan Tungo sa Kalidad na Edukasyon Para sa Kabataan and Sampaguita HS complements the DepEd’s efforts to ensure quality education and continuity of learning despite the challenges brought by COVID 19 pandemic.

She ended up her statement with her message to the Sampaguitarians, “In this most difficult time, let us keep the spirit of Bayanihan sa Paaralan alive. Let us together strive to bring better citizens among our students.”

Brigada Eskuwela espouses the spirit of volunteerism, enlivens the spirit of camaraderie among all the volunteers and school administrators, and aids the government in saving funds which can be used for other worthwhile activities such as building new facilities and purchasing more learning resource materials for the benefit of the learners. This year’s Brigadahan will be far different from the previous ones, yet the desires to support the education of our learners are still burning in the hearts of many. – AC, Purity
