Deped Secretary Leanor Briones officially announced that classes will open on August 24; however, she also mentioned that there will be no face to face classes if there will be no available vaccines this school year.

"Mayroon namang tinatawag na flexible learning options [at] may mga schools na handa nang magbukas ng online mapa-public o private ng kanilang school lessons kasama nadin ang mga pagbabago ng ating curriculum hindi lamang sa pamamaraan ng pagturo kung hindi ang content ng ating curriculum" the DepEd leader uttered.

According to Sec. Briones, President Rodrigo Duterte disapproved the proposed face to face classes for the safety of the students. She said that it depends to the parents of the leaners if they will transfer their children or neither way, yet their decision will be respected by the authority.
There were reports that the announcement flooded lots of complaints about the online classes and netizens disagreed about the verdict and found it unfavorable for the of students.
Based on a blog by TOM of www.peterson.com, there are disadvantages to consider about online education. They are as follows:

• Lack of Resources – we all know that a lot of families are struggling with expenses and doesn’t have enough money for buying all the needs in order to join online classes.

• Little or no face-to-face interaction – While this may seem obvious, students have a tendency to underestimate the impact of never meeting the instructor and other students in the class building relationships with your instructor and classmates will require more effort.

• Intense requirement for self-discipline – Online courses usually have deadlines for assignments, tests, commenting on lectures, etc. That’s not the problem. The problem is the time management and organization skills necessary to stay on top of your work, allot an appropriate amount of time to complete each task and balance your coursework against other priorities in your life. If you tend toward procrastination, then you might need to strengthen your skill set before choosing an online course or program.

However, there are also some benefits on it that convinced the President and DepEd to support online classes as distance learning. Here are some of its advantages from www.ccaurora.edu:

• Flexibility - Students have the freedom to juggle their careers and school because they aren't tied down to a fixed schedule. In a traditional classroom setting, class meeting times are set, and the student has no power over this, forcing them to work their schedules around these dates. Most people who choose online learning tend to have other commitments, and prefer this mode of learning as it gives them power over how they will delegate their time towards their different projects.
• Documentation - All the information that you will need will be safely stored in an online database. This includes things like live discussion documents, training materials and emails. This means that if there's ever anything that needs to be clarified, the student will be able to access these documents fast, saving valuable time. This is especially useful for individuals that need to carry out research for a project and submit their findings to a panel.
• Access to Expertise - An online college education might give students access to specialized degree courses that may not be available in an easily accessible or local institution of learning. Online classes allow the sharing of expertise that helps more people have access to education that is not readily available in certain geographic locations. This type of education has grown over the last few years and has experienced mainstream acceptance. With an online class, you get to control your learning environment, which ultimately helps you develop a deeper understanding of your degree course. New models of learning are always springing up in the market, providing students with varied opportunities to fashion their education into something that fits them, not the other way round. It also provides individuals an opportunity to finish a degree they might have started and were unable to continue with for one reason or another. The future of online degree education looks promising, and opens up education to a larger section of the population than ever before.

On the other hand, teachers of Sampaguita High School are currently being prepared by DepEd by giving them trainings and webinars to make them ready for online classes. According to some sources, Deped will also be conducting orientations and webinars for the students. It will be a great help to get everyone ready for the upcoming opening of classes on the 24th of August in spite of the pandemic.
As of July 12, the cases already reached 56,259, yet it is clarified that online classes will still pursue and DepEd is now doing its best to make the plan work in the best way that they can for the benefit of the learners.
